2016 Toyota Tacoma Release date, Price, Photos, Specs & Reviews
All-new for 2016 Toyota, the third-generation Tacoma follows a predecessor that has been the most popular compact pickup on the market. Attracting an intensely loyal following, Tacoma is a large compact (near midsize, sometimes dubbed right-sized), targeting shoppers who shun the familiar “bigger is better” approach to truck-buying. The 2016 Toyota Tacoma has some of the most rabid loyalists of all the mid-size trucks. They bought more than 155,000 copies last year, twice as many as its nearest competitor. And there’s such a strong following among older Tacomas that they maintain their resale value better than any other truck.

2016 Toyota Tacoma Release date
With the anticipation on the new features and promise of something new to try, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma will undoubtedly outperform most of its competitors as soon as it is unveiled this Sept. 10.
2016 Toyota Tacoma interior
The new one’s outward view and seating position will feel familiar, but the interior is modern, fresh and light years ahead of the old truck. Though the cab isn’t any larger, engineers carved out more hip and shoulder space, so it feels a little roomier.
The interior of the Tacoma has been given a thorough upgrade to match its updated exterior. New-for-2016 improvements include Toyota‘s latest Entune audio system, revised climate controls and a new gauge cluster. Toyota has also include some soft-touch material pieces on the Tacoma’s door tops and dashboard, but other surfaces remain standard-issue tough plastic. Cloth seats are standard across the Tacoma line, save for the Limited, which gets leather upholstery.
2016 Toyota Tacoma exterior
On the outside, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma will borrow heavily from the new 4Runner as well as from the Tundra. The front end will get the same hexagonal grille as the 4Runner with slim headlights which now are available with LED technology while the sides of the car as well as the back are a lot more muscular than before with black plastic inserts which are there to protect it from rocks. The stock wheels are 16 inches and the car can be had either with normal tires all terrain tires.
2016 Toyota Tacoma Engine
Engine wise, the 2016 Toyota Tacoma will come as standard with a very similar 2.7 liter inline 4 as the previous model but this time the engine is going to make a bit more power than before. 180 to 190 horsepower are expected from it and unlike the 2015 model, the new car will get a brand new 6 speed automatic gearbox and rear wheel drive or an optional all wheel drive system. Thanks to the improved gearbox, the Tacoma should easily get more than 24 MPG on average which in the previous model was pretty much impossible.
2016 Toyota Tacoma review
The 2016 Toyota Tacoma has a clean-sheet redesign, and it delivers exactly what those dedicated enthusiasts want. The new Tacoma gets a new cabin structure, new powertrains, a re-tuned suspension, and an improved feature set—plus cabin improvements that make these trucks significantly quieter inside.
There are five models for the 2016 Toyota Tacoma: The SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, and new for 2016, the Limited. Gone are the Pre-Runner and TRD Pro. SR, SR5, TRD Sport and Limited are two or four-wheel drive. TRD Off-Road is just 4WD. Limited is Double Cab only; the other four are Access or Double Cab.
- The optional V6 puts out a healthy 278-horsepower V6.
- A Tacoma can tow up to 6,800 pounds and hauls up to 1,620 in its bed.
- The TRD Off-Road makes off-roading a walk in the park.
- The purpose of the base 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine leaves us confused — with a mere 159 horsepower it lacks grunt, and it’s no more fuel efficient than the V6.
- We wonder why Toyota doesn’t offer the four-cylinder, though, in a basic configuration with rear-wheel drive and a manual transmission.
- The ride can get a bit bouncy, even when traveling on paved surfaces
